RE: Hot Springs Arkansas, fun place???

A drive up to Petit Jean State Park would be very worthwhile.

RE: Branson?

If you want an RV park with a campground feel (ie. shade trees, campfire rings, picnic shelter/table), then I would highly recommend Compton Ridge Campground. It is located near Silver Dollar City (they run a shuttle to SDC also) and not "in town" but close enough for it to not be a problem. We've been staying there for ten years and have never had a bad experience.
While many folks here recommend ABC, I found it to be very spartan - an RV parking lot to be exact - and that may be what you are looking for. Sites are close together, very little shade, and they do not allow campfires.

RE: Buffalo National River

The Current and Jacks Fork rivers should provide very nice floating that time of year. Alley Springs is a beautiful campground.
Tyler Bend Campground at the Buffalo does NOT have hookups.

RE: Lake of the Ozarks...FUN

Loop 4 is the only loop that has sites on or near the water. Most are basic but they do have some electric sites now. They are closer together then the other loops. We were there last month and camped in Loop 3. It is a huge park - once you enter it's over 5 miles to the campground.
This area isn't really known for it's shows - there used to be a mainstreet opry show near Highway 54 & KK. Not sure if it's still in business or not. If you like mexican food, Vista Grande is a good choice. Alot of folks like to go down to Bagnell Dam strip - lots of arcades and tourist trap type stuff. There are several go-cart tracks and miniature golf courses.
If you have time, I'd suggest a side trip to Ha Ha Tonka State Park just west of Camdenton. This is a beautiful park that can be done in an afternoon.
I don't know of any dinner cruises.

RE: Lightning storms in a trailer

Cars and trailers do NOT offer protection from lightning. A friend of mine was struck in his car (with his wife) while traveling down a city street. The lightning struck the rooftop antenna and traveled through the car burning his wife's legs. The car was in motion. You may feel safer but if it's your time, it's your time.

RE: Need Suggestions oncampgrounds in Branson MO

ABC is an RV parking lot...not a campground. And they are stacked in like cord wood.
Compton Ridge is a much nicer choice...and you can even have a campfire if you want.

RE: pop up gizmos

Lowes has foil faced bubble wrap insulation in 4' x 25' rolls. I just bought a roll and made my own Pop Up Gizmos. I used foil tape found in the heating and air section for my one seam over the big bunk.
These things make a huge difference. I paid $49.00 for the roll, and I have a lot left over.
A few folks have mentioned that the foil coating will rub off onto the fabric overtime...no idea if it's true but you may want to watch out for that. I have a set of window inserts cut out of the same stuff (reflectix).

You would be doing yourself a great dis-service if you do not spend atleast a night or two at Dead Horse Point State Park.

RE: Branson, MO campgrounds

Compton Ridge is excellent. http://www.comptonridge.com/
Two pools - one indoor, one outside. Free shuttles to Silver Dollar City. Lots of shade. Most sites have covered picnic table shelters/wood decks.
ABC is an RV parking lot...not a campground. Sites are extremely close together...hardly any shade...no campfires allowed. It is geared more for the big rigs that just want a place to park while they take in shows, etc.
Here's a webshots album of ABC (not mine) http://outdoors.webshots.com/album/554416445viyjgr?start=0

RE: pop up gizmos

Pop Up Gizmos(tm) are custom made to your trailer, not space blankets cobbled together.
-- Chuck
Actually you don't have to sew or cobble anything together even if you have to use two. Simply overlap the top blanket and clamp to the canvas - how much easier can it get? And at a fraction of the cost. I'm not real sure why you have to have a custom fit...other then that, the sportsmen blankets are the same material.

RE: Nasty topic

Yes we are camping much less - I would give the politically correct answer and say that no amount of money could keep me from doing what we enjoy, blah blah blah...but the fact is, that at 10 miles per gallon...we can't afford to camp every other weekend like we did a few years ago.
I would imagine that if things stay the same - a small pop-up will be in our future...
As much as we love camping, I can't justify spending my kids college savings on fuel.

RE: Jayco 232 - Resale Value

I bought my 2006 23' hybrid in 2005 for $14,000 which included the hitch. I know different makes have different values but I would sell mine in a heartbeat if I thought I could get what I paid for it. I'm pretty sure the Roo's were selling in that range too.

Why not something like this. You can get them anywhere.

RE: What size tarp?

Good grief man - if you're going to do that just ditch the pop-up altogether. Just buy one of those expedition tents from Cabela's - you won't see the sky either way you go.
